Still WorkingSchool is out, but not for us here at ATVF! Classes have been extended an extra week for us, and it looks like a lot of people will be in post audio for a while, myself included. Right now we are waiting for our composer to finish the music, which is almost done, and then after that its on to a final mix, then audio is finished! The other factor we are waiting for is our VFX, which takes quite a while. Most of the team has been bogged down with the end of term class work, but for this week we should be able to get some work done ( I hope). After VFX we have to use our flicker free program in order to fix a few shots, and then after all of that we imbed the audio with the video and proceed to colour correction. CFS Gala 2008!It's that time of year... Carleton Film Society Gala time! CFS Film Gala 2008 Bell Theatre (Minto Centre 2000) This year's lineup is diverse and exciting! From two-minute romantic drama to fifteen-minute stop motion animation, from supernatural music video to psychological thriller, and everything in between. On a personal note, this year's gala features a little attempt I made at dry absurdist comedy called "Frankie and Alison" -- as well as my first go at cinematography on Illya's "Broken Frames" (working title). 3x3 up!Hello there! It's been a long time! Updates from La Belle ProvinceHey everybody. It's been a while! I've been working hard, lots of projects this year. My website's now live, you can check out some of my work over at www.sean-sweeney.com - feel free to use the email client on the page to spam me. Ha. So I'm wrapping up my final year over at Concordia, and it's been a great run. I've met a lot of fantastic people who I hope to work with again once I'm out in the industry. This year we got a chance to work with a super16 ARRI SR2 camera, and a nice set of Zeiss primes. The quality of the glass has improved dramatically this year, with virtually all of the lenses being much sharper that the ones we had access to last year. I shot two films this year, and both were great experiences. The first one was a bit of a crash course in dealing with moving daylight - the film took place over the course of one day, and we shot over five, sometimes at night, during the rain, light levels constantly changing. It was a nightmare, but I learned a few tricks and got some nice footage out of it. Submitted by sean on Mon, 2008-03-10 03:15.
Out of the Frying Pan...This past Tuesday I just wrapped principle photography on my 10 minute short "Recollection". We had our ups and downs during this shoot. We lost our Friday to the huge snow storm and had to make it up this past Tuesday. Other than that there was one day where we blew a fuse in our generator. The thing I took for granted during this shoot was the number of set-ups I thought we would be able to achieve during the day. I had the most crew I've ever had on any project, keeping this in mind I think it was my own dillusion that led me to think that we would have been able to have 20 more set-ups a day. Takin' it Easy!Well I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas! Oh, and now a great new year. Me, I was supposed to do some work over the break on my 10 minute, but alas I couldn't find the time what with all of the get togeathers and the like. Also, the "work" work that makes me my coin to pay off my damn credit card! I've been takin' it way to easy! On the second of the new year (Jan 2nd) I will be heading back to Oakville to start all of the oh so wonderful pre-production on my next short! I'm going to see if I can get a hold of a working scanner so I can scan some of the storyboards I'll be making for it! Other than that I'll keep people posted as to the latest developments! Happy New Year... Submitted by dre on Mon, 2007-12-31 16:53.
HD SeminarThis past weekend I attended the HD Seminar weekend module. Michael Savoie ran the primer this weekend he's been a camera man for over 20 year and is now a DOP for many documentaries, his last project was with National Geographic. It was basically a crash course on what HD is and how it compares to film. The jist of it is this film has a larger colour range and digital or HD can perform well under low light conditions. Nothing here you guys didn't know. On the Sunday we went down to Sim video in the big T-dot and we got to see some of their higher end cameras. We saw the Sony F-950 the bigger brother to the F-900, the big deal about this camera is that it has a pretty large colour range and is able to go to F-10. Submitted by dre on Wed, 2007-12-12 09:57.
The YouTube ThingI just wanted to let everyone know that I just added content to my you tube channel, after a whole year. So if you want to see stuff you have already seen on another hosting site feel free to check out www.youtube.com/arehal, there is also a short that was posted on there that I acted in called "the audition room" feel free to check that one out also! I'll be posting again tomorrow about the HD seminar I'm currently attending. We're going down to Sim Video in Toronto to have a look at all of the cameras they have, including the new red camera, which apparently has been crapping out in the colder weather! 3 minute down 10 minute nextHey guys and gals I just finished my three minute short film, with any luck I'll have it up on my virb page (www.virb.com/andrerehal) next week! The production cycle was very taxing on the system a lot of getting up at 5, finishing at 6 and then going home at 10 for the majority of the week, but it was tons of fun in any case! The next thing down the pipeline is the 10 minute, which I will have more than a week of prep for! Right now we are still in the script approval process with it. The one I'm directing is in good shape so that is always positive, now my team can move on to pre-production. Submitted by dre on Tue, 2007-12-04 10:00.
So I'm Going to use PuppetsHi all, it's certainly been a few! I'm currently in pre-production stages of my 3 min short and Story stages of my 10 minute. I was a little disappointed with the scripts that were chosen for these three minute films, basically we have vampire movie, an old salesman movie, and finally bachelor party aftermath. Now the majority of people, including myself have chosen this bachelor party script. This led to my regret of not choosing something different, as only one person chose to do the vampire script and very few other people went with the sales man. They all have chosen a really cool and fun take on these two scripts and everyone else is playing this bachelor thing very straight, making it easy to get lost in the crowd.
